GREATER EVANSVILLE RUNNERS/WALKERS CLUB MINUTES
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 2005

The January meeting of the GERWC was held on Wednesday, January 12, 2005 at 6:00pm at the YMCA in downtown Evansville.

MEMBERS PRESENT: Richard Tenbarge, Cedric Hustace, Jerry Seddon, Jerry Walker, Ray Pritchet, Bob Christmas, Bob Head, Don Nichols, Tom Anderson, Carol Anderson, Jim Effinger, Steve Krohn, Paul DeVillez and Angela Reckelhoff,

GUESTS PRESENT: 

RACE CALENDAR: Jerry Walker reported on the Race Calendar.  He is working on getting information on both local and non-local interesting events.  When wanting to add an event to the calendar we need to contact both Jerry and Chad at the website.  Jerry also wants to maintain a calendar of group workouts in which members can participate.  More on this in the next newsletter 

TREASURER’S REPORT: Cedric Hustace gave the Treasurer’s report.  Cedric presented a report on the Banquet.

RACE TIMING: Richard reminded members that we are timing two events in March.  Mater Dei 5 K, March 5, and the St Patrick’s 5K on March 12, 2005

WEBSITE:  Richard asked if anyone had any questions concerning the website, everyone indicated they are happy with the way it’s going.

BANQUET: The GERWC Banquet was held at the SWIRCA Building on February 5, 2005 beginning at 6:00pm with a happy hour and dinner at 7:00pm.  Awards were presented after the dinner. The guest speaker, John Nunn was a big hit, especially with the high school athletes who stayed around to talk to him after the banquet. 

WALKER’S REPORT: On Sunday, March 6, 2005 area race walkers are going to Louisville to participate in the Mason/Dixon Indoor Track Games

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: Angela gave the membership report.  She advised that quite a few renewals have been received and that she believes we have about twenty new members.

NEWSLETTER:  Jerry Seddon reports that the deadline for the next newsletter is February 15, 2005.  He will be out of town and Jerry Walker will put the letter together. 

STEP UP PROGRAM: Carol Anderson gave the Step Up Club Report.  The Toyota 8K is scheduled for April 23, 2005. Planning has begun.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Recommendation made to distribute scholarship applications in the fall and make the awards at the annual banquet.  Additional awards will be made this year, Bob Lauderdale stated that the first Ray Rayl scholarship awards will be made this year with the money coming from the annual Ray Rayl 5K. 

PICNIC: Don Nichols is starting the planning for the annual picnic.  Don will work on setting the date and renting the shelter at Wesselman’s Park

NEW BUSINESS: 

A. Cedric Hustace discussed getting the Safari Zoo 5K started again.  It was suggested that either Vectren or the Deaconness Foundation might be interested as sponsors
B. Bob Lauderdale stated that the Senior Games would be held on May 14, 2005 at Central High School Stadium.
