Weinbach’s Cafeteria

Present: Bob Head, Gordon Benfield, Barb Cox, Chad Hartman, Ray Pritchett, Bob Lauderdale, Bob Christmas, Becky Kiesel

Correction to June 14 minutes: Bob’s Gym 5K race is Aug. 26.

Toyota paid the club for its timing services. We received $3.00 per registered participant. See Treasurer’s report for the total. Step Up Club received $3000 from Toyota.

Speedsters Track Club is asking for donations for high school kids to attend National Championships in Maryland. After some discussion, Bob Lauderdale made a motion to donate $200 and it was seconded by Ray Pritchett. All present agreed.

Computer problem update:
Gateway fixed all problems w/laptop computer the second time it was sent in. Chad called computer support to find out what work had been done. Gateway wasn’t able to tell him.

Chad passed out a handout of computer timing equipment. The main plunger used with the TimeMachine does not function properly with each push. The back-up plunger is now being used. Chad has a list of equipment that the club needs to purchase for computer race timing. Approximate total is $250. Bob Head made a motion to purchase all equipment Chad asked for and Ray Pritchett seconded it. All present agreed.

Chad passed out a list of volunteers that are needed for computer timed results. 8 people total plus 2 extras whenever possible. 2 chutes are recommended for Thanksgiving day race. 16 volunteers are needed not including road management.

Chad has a cd about needs for a race that was passed to Bob Head. The initial contact about timing a race will be Gordon. Gordon will contact Chad and Bob who will decide whether a computer or card system will be used.

Chad reported on a website survey. Only 9 people responded. Website receives 2000 hits per month. Do we want member info posted on website?

Gordon stated we have a lot of family memberships. The mailing list needs updated. Members aren’t getting mailings or race flyers. The bulk mail rate is 350 people to get discount. Gordon gets calls from persons wanting to be taken off the mailing list. Gordon will continue with membership until a replacement is found.

U of E is timing the Strassenfest 5K race. It’s the same day as the YMCA 5K race on Aug 5.

S. Indiana racewalkers officially disbanded in May. A $400 donation was made to the military with the funds.

Aug. 6 picnic. Bob Head will cook and bring 3 coolers w/ice. He will also run the horseshoe tournament. Becky asked board members to bring side dishes.

Barb Cox passed out a handout detailing the social and club run activities. She stated 15 people participated in the club run at Gerst House on June 22. All ran the old Y 10K course. All 15 stayed and most ordered food. The next club run is July 20 at Smitty’s.

Barb talked to the newspaper about doing a story on GERWC. The response wasn’t favorable. There might be a possible link to Chamber of Commerce. Ryan Reynolds of the Courier will do an article in July about the club.

Aug. 12 Otter’s race. Barb volunteered to help with registration and Bob will help Becky with the starting line. More volunteers are needed to help with finish line, road control, and the water stops. Gordon has been working with the police and REACT to set up road control. Road control will be harder to get from now on. The police dept. is spread too thin and won’t provide manpower for road control for races. This is the last year the Otter’s race will cross First Avenue. We only have to pay $5.00 for a parade permit to get police road control at present time.

Next meeting: Aug. 9, 2006.
