| Katie McKinney was our
Female
High School Cross-Country Runner of the Year for 2003.

How long have you been running,
and how did you get started running?
I first started running track in
my freshman year. I decided to run because it was off-season for both volleyball
and basketball. Because I made it to the regionals in the 800, I decided
to forego volleyball in lieu of cross-country.
How much do you run each week?
Do you do any cross-training?
Last summer I ran 2-a-days averaging
35 miles/week. I play basketball year round.
Where do you run? Any favorite
places to run?
I run throughout my neighborhood,
at the 'Y', and USI. Because of the hills and the scenery, I favor
USI.
What are some of your favorite
races and why? Do you have any favorite distance (5K, 10K, etc.)?
My favorites take place at USI and
the Memorial Inv'l.
What are some of your personal
best times?
4K (15:10)
3200 (11:49)
1600 (5:21)
Does anyone in your family
also run/race walk?
My brother runs track.
What are your plans/goals for
this year-races you plan to run, goals to reach, etc.?
My goal is to lower my pb on the
track by 15 seconds.
What are you most proud of?
I am most proud of my city &
sectional track victories, and my 1st place finish in the Memorial
Inv't.
Most runners have lots of advice
for other Runners: anything you'd like to share?
Don't ever stop running.
