GERWC Timing Service

For the past several years the GERWC has contributed to enhancing our racing community by offering a timing service to local races. The popularulity of this service had grown to timing races almost every weekend, often more then one race per weekend or day. This past year the GERWC timed 47 different tristate races! This demand overwhelmed the willing volunteers we had. The skills and responsibility to be the leader who coordinates the timing service is a paid postion. What started out as taking care of timing for a few races per year has developed into a business of it's own.

The GERWC is a running and walking club that has a 501C-3 status, which is a tax deductable form of non-profit organization. Due to this fact, there have been challenges with having paid employees and making the profit we do from this volume of races being timed. The main purpose and renewed focus of the GERWC to to promote to our community lifelong participation in fitness through training groups, race information, providing running opportunities to school children, and awarding college scholarships.  The GERWC has decided to no longer time races due to the volume they were timing making them more of a business than a running club.

To help with the dilemma the GERWC was having with being a business that provides a service while also wanting to maintain a 501C-3 nonprofit status, current GERWC President and leader of the race timing, Tim Roman, has started his own race timing company, which is called To The Finish, L.L.C..
